It’s the beginning of my mini-Sabbatical, a time to rejuvenate my soul, to relax my mind, to regain some strength, and focus my heart. Rest is such a crucial part of our relationship with life that it was the first thing God made holy. Imagine that… the very first thing that was made holy was a chunk of time and God instructed us to use it for rest. This short time away will be a precious experience for me, and I believe it will benefit the church as I’ll be ready to work alongside you awaiting your new pastor. Someone commented that it would be tough to have a series of transitional pastors coming through, and I believe that’s true. I would hate to see the growth and stability of the congregation diminished by shifts in leadership. There is a healthy thing going on here and my hope is that it will continue and increase. My plan is to spend some time doing nothing, some serious time studying and writing, and also do a bit of roaming. It will probably end up looking a bit like retirement, but with the anticipation that there is more to do, more to be excited about, and more to explore here. The regular Saturday articles I write will continue as I’m writing all of them before I leave. That way, no one will have to figure out, “What do we do about Geoff’s articles?” You’ve already discovered that I left you in good hands. Pastor Mofid and the rest of our staff love this community of faith and seek to enhance it in so many ways. They and your Elders and Deacons know what they are doing. Trust them. Looking forward to being back with you all. Blessings, Geoff
