Donations For the Children

During July, August, and September we will be sponsoring collection opportunities to help provide backpacks, school supplies, new shoes, and pajamas for children and youth living in shelters, foster kids, and street children. Usually, children and youth have little to no control over the decisions that parents and other adults make or don’t make that impact their lives. Our goal is to help the children/youth feel a bit more like they fit in at school and that they don’t have to sleep in their school clothes. To date, 100 backpacks, 8 bags of school supplies, snacks, and lunch boxes have been delivered to PUSD Youth in Transition for their distribution party on July 31st. More backpacks and school supplies will be delivered to Los Pen and Pomerado Elementary schools, Twin Peaks Middle School, and Salvation Army’s distribution to families in the Escondido area in August. A total of 147 backpacks were collected and many bags of school supplies. Our August grocery collection will be donated to New Day Urban Ministries serving individuals and families in the downtown area. The drive thru event will be on Saturday, August 3 from 9:00 – 11:00 am in the upper parking lot. Please consider providing some of the following items: pop top canned soups, meals, cereal, peanut butter & jelly, mac-n-cheese, pasta and sauces, toilet paper or Kleenex. Last August we set a goal of collecting 100 new pairs of school shoes for children and youth. We surpassed the target by providing 151 pairs of new shoes. This year we are setting the challenge goal at 150 new pairs of school shoes for kids. Please help us provide sturdy athletic shoes for kindergarten thru high school age children. Donations can be left in the Welcome Center Monday – Friday or brought to the drive thru event on Saturday, August 17th. Our collection will benefit children/youth served by PUSD Youth in Transition, San Diego Rescue Mission, New Day Urban Ministries, and Solutions for Change. Thank you for helping RB Community make a difference in the lives of children. Serving HIM Together, Elaine Johnson Outreach Ministry Coordinator
