The federal government is accepting orders now for test kits at www.covidtests.gov or https://special.usps.com/testkits. Because of expected high demand, each household can only have FOUR TESTS shipped to their residence. The kits will “typically ship within 7 - 12 days of ordering”. People will need to request the test well before they meet the guidelines for requiring them. High demand, processing and shipping needs to be considered. Actual delivery of the test kits is likely to be delayed!
It’s unclear what brand of rapid test kits you’ll receive since the packaging is different and they may use slightly different procedures. Their mechanisms of detection and effectiveness are generally the same.
Some insurance companies or Medicare Advantage Plans may cover the cost for at-home over-the-counter Covid-19 tests. Check with you insurance company for details. Tests cannot be ordered through Medicare.gov.
