No doubt, when you walk onto the campus of RB Community, you notice the buildings. There are many. They are tall. They are well maintained and beautiful to look at. We can enjoy them, be thankful for them, and feel safe in them because of the time and effort of our staff and the members of the Session Facilities Committee. Brad Kutzner is one of our hard-working volunteers, a ruling Elder and current Chair of this dedicated group. As you will read, Brad is very highly qualified for his volunteer job. Brad is a native San Diegan, as was his wife, Susan. They grew up in Lakeside. He graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1976 with a degree in Architectural Engineering. He and Susan joined about 8 years ago. Brad’s work experiences were in Construction Project Management, both for Poway and as a consultant. For most of his career, he managed public projects ranging from small maintenance actions to major road or civil works projects. After retirement, Brad felt called to become more involved in our church family. He was gladly approved as an Elder and became a member of the Facilities Committee. Following in the capable footsteps of Warren Johnson, Brad learned about the structural and maintenance issues of our buildings. Now, as chair, he manages routine maintenance as well as special projects. During his tenure, essential repairs were completed on the breezeway between the Christian Ed. Building and Fellowship Hall, and on the leaking roof of the sanctuary tower cupola. Brad also has mentored Gabby Martin as she builds her skills as our Facilities Manager. He often finds it spiritually satisfying to work closely with the Admin & Finance and HR committees. He feels they trust each other’s knowledge and experience and that their goals are the same. He experiences God’s guidance also in his interactions with staff and other volunteers. In addition to his professional and volunteer achievements, Brad feels the legacy he is most proud of is his three children and 5 grandchildren. He says he is sooo lucky that they live close by him so that he can be a part of their lives often. As an Elder, Brad has met many members of our church family. He says, “When my wife passed away suddenly two years ago, I found I had MANY more friends than I ever imagined! This new family supported me in so many ways and has continued to be an important part of my life. I know that the SPIRIT led me to this church and this job, knowing I would need that support. It has enriched my life beyond measure.” From Irene Dunny
