How are you doing with that? I don’t usually make New Year Resolutions because I have a history of not maintaining them especially when it focuses on weight loss. It’s the same ten pounds year after year. But this year I made two resolutions and one of them relates to these newsletter articles. Now that I have made the resolution known, I am more inclined to keep it throughout the year. The resolution has to do with sharing ways you can become more involved in our community by volunteering for local agencies: San Diego Public Libraries need volunteers to:
Read to small groups of children
Tutor children or adults in English, math, or reading
Teach a craft or other skill to small groups of adults
Contact your local SD Public Library to learn how you can become involved.
Thank you for your ongoing support of our drive thru events. In January, a very full SUV of groceries was delivered to 4 Community Care food pantry serving families living within the PUSD boundaries. They in turn contacted me about picking up and delivering two carloads of Cup-A-Soup for unsheltered individuals served through Interfaith Community Services, New Day Urban Ministries, and Salvation Army. Our friends at Silvergate continue to provide 200 sack lunches monthly for Interfaith clients and the Carpenter Fellowship Group packed 200 sack lunches too. The Blanket and Sleeping Bag collection was very successful with deliveries being made to Interfaith Community Services, New Day Urban Ministries, SD Rescue Mission, Salvation Army, and Solutions for Change. Twenty-five new blankets are being taken to LA fire victims. What can we do to help the fire victims in LA? At this point in time, it’s hard to know what they need. Donations to Presbyterian Disaster Assistance is one of the best ways we can help meet the need for housing, food, and counseling. Some agencies in LA are reporting that they have more clothing, houseware goods, and bedding than they can manage. Carpenter Fellowship made 25 dirt screen sifters for families to use as they begin the process of cleaning up.
