Meet Toffer Williams

During His life, Jesus admonished us to let our light shine. He wants us to act in ways that show we are His beloved children and He is our best friend. We have a member of our church family who grew up in RB Community and finds the roots of his faith here. Christ has given him a heart for sharing his light in ways that few of us know. That young man is Toffer Williams who currently lives in Anaheim, CA and works full time at Disneyland, providing the lighting for many Disney productions. Toffer still expresses his love for our congregation by coming back and volunteering, when he can, to do the lighting for the wonderful drama productions created by Olivia Donald. Toffer tells us about himself here. I was born and raised in San Diego, started attending RB Community sometime in the late 90s when I was in Kindergarten. I started in the youth music program then as well (with Tim!). My Mom homeschooled me from second grade thru high school due to challenges in school. I started doing lighting and technical theater at 13 and spent countless hours learning the craft at RB Community for worship/theater/events, as well as community theaters throughout San Diego. Upon graduating high school in 2009 I took a few classes on the topic at Palomar College, and eventually wound up getting my degree in Show Production in 2013 at Full Sail University in Orlando Florida. Later in the fall of 2013, I was hired as a Stage Technician at Disney, which I’ve now done for over a decade. Luke Graham actually got me my initial contact to get an interview, and I will forever be grateful to him for that. After feeling wonder at the effect that a sudden burst of a column of light had on a stage production, Toffer knew that working with light was what he wanted to do. On a typical Sunday morning, take a look at the large lights in the cupola of our sanctuary. They will be moving in different directions and changing colors, shapes, and intensity to enhance the actions of the people on stage. Toffer has spent much of his time beforehand programming the computers as well as training our youth who want to develop their skills. We enjoy a professionally lighted worship service without even realizing it. The pleasure he experiences in his work is clearly evident on his face. We are grateful and very blessed that Toffer has chosen to use his God-given talent for lighting in his career as well as by sharing this gift with us to enhance our times of fellowship. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good. Genesis 1: 3-4a From Irene Dunny and Toffer Williams
