Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Elder Statement Addressing Injustice

[From the active Elders of Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Church]

The following statement is one step in our ongoing covenant to address God's will from our relationships with fellow human beings. We affirm the statement of our parent denomination, PC(USA):

“Racism is the opposite of what God intends for humanity. It is the rejection of the other, which is entirely contrary to the Word of God incarnate in Jesus Christ. Racism is a lie about our fellow human beings, for it says that some are less than others. Because of our biblical understanding of who God is and what God intends for humanity, the PC(USA) must stand against, speak against and work against racism.

To that end, we subscribe to the biblical instruction in I John - “…let us not love with words or tongue, but with action and in truth…And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded.” (1 John 3:18, 23).

We are moving to twice monthly meetings as a Session of Elders, during which we will agree to action steps for our congregation in response to community needs related to social injustice, racism, and diversity. We intend to do more than make statements.
