Reflection for February 8

We are trying to find freedom from materialism and live a simpler life. We try to stop buying so much and accumulating so many things in our homes. We have so much stacking up in our homes since it is difficult to get rid of memories of those items. We try to find contentment with less. We need to remember that our treasure lies in our relationship with God and not material wealth. Crises can force people into simplicity. The Los Angeles fires are forcing people to think about simplicity and connect with what truly matters with their community and faith. We can offer to help these people, and we can realize how this can impact our life. We can give to others and maybe downsize our items to help them. We can help others find their significance as they come back from the loss of their homes and possessions. Where your treasure is that is where your heart is. Shift from material wealth to spiritual riches. We can live a life of simplicity, generosity, and service with God in our life. The hymn “Lay Up Your Treasures in Heaven” had the words “don’t boast about jewels, mansions, and possessions”. We can do this since God is with us every day. Have you seen the articles in the newsletters recently of all that we are giving to others who are in need? We have been donating clothing, toys, diapers, food, and so many more things to help people. We are being guided by God to make a difference. Thank you for your time and treasure to help these people! Reflections from Deborah Kelly. Share your reflections with deborah@rbcommunity.org and let me know your thoughts.
