Reflections (August 28th, 2021)

I loved the phrase in the sermon last week - “Discover what we have received and then look at what we have to offer”. This reminds me of doing a spiritual gifts assessment to find out what gifts you have received from God. As a result, you know how to best serve, help, and love others. You are walking into life the way Jesus walked. You are listening and feeling that tug at your heart from the Spirit.   I recently had to make a list of the ways I have been involved in this church over the thirty years I have been here. I had not put together that list for many years so really had to think about it. It was so interesting to review that list and see how I had grown and developed new skills through the years.  Think about what you did maybe ten or twenty years ago and then what you do today. Think about your involvement in the church along that path. How have you lived with hope? What have you received from others? How are you walking now with your head high due to your growing relationship with God? How have you opened up to learn more about others so we can hold their hands to move forward?  Wow! That is a lot to think about! However, picture how God has been a driving force in your life. He has given you spiritual gifts in order to love others into significance. I see people in this church who make such a difference in other people’s lives, and it is because they are living life with hope and have definitely held many people’s hands (including mine). As I look at the list of ways I have been involved, I think of many who gave me a nudge, helped me find my way, and helped me learn how to hold my head high. Sometimes I was afraid to take those steps, and yet someone was always there for me. I see what I have received and what I have been able to offer. Thank you to the amazing people in this church who love Jesus and help those along the way.  Deborah Kelly
