Reflections For November 23

Powerless means lacking power or authority to do something. It implies a state of helplessness or inability to influence a situation or outcome. However, through faith in Jesus Christ, we can receive the power of God to overcome these limitations and live a meaningful life. Our spiritual life can impact others as we act with God’s love. We can give others a kind word and let God’s love flow through us. I have enjoyed two lunches in the past week with friends who are helping others. My friends are receiving the power of God’s love and sharing it with other people who need help and care. There are so many people in this church who are living their lives in the same way. Thank you! I found this information about Abraham Lincoln in a book I am reading. I couldn’t believe I was reading this after the sermon on Sunday. I have always admired Lincoln, and this meant so much to me to see who he was and how it connected to the sermon. “When he was young, he possessed a profound sense of empathy – the ability to put himself in the place of others to imagine their situations and identify with their feelings. He was always ready to lend a hand. He had kindness, generosity, humility, and intelligence.” We can live this way and know that Jesus died for our sins and that through him we can be forgiven and receive the power and strength of God. We have been transformed and have received the power to live a life of meaning and purpose. Two hymns from last Sunday’s service emphasized what life we have: How Deep the Father’s Love for Us, and Thank you Jesus for the Blood. The last song had the words, “Thank you Jesus – you saved my life, brought me from the darkness into glorious light. Life has no end. For I have been transformed by the blood of the lamb.” Reflections from Deborah Kelly. Share your reflections with deborah@rbcommunity.org and let me know your thoughts.
