The sermon about David and Goliath powerfully illustrated how we can overcome seemingly impossible challenges in our lives, echoing the theme: “We can do it!” Goliath represented a tough challenge for the Israelites. We all face challenges like this that can feel overwhelming. Goliath seemed unbeatable. What can we do about this? David was driven by Goliath’s defiance of God. David's unwavering faith enabled him to surrender to God's will, asking, 'Where do you want me to go?' This resonates with our own lives when we find ourselves on unexpected paths, prompting us to seek divine guidance rather than solely pondering our own actions. We are called to recognize who we are in the uniqueness of God. We each have different gifts to share. Think about who you are and who you are in Jesus Christ. Rev. Ko made an interesting point: just as we tend to seek out media that confirms our existing biases, we often approach the Bible looking only for what we want to see, avoiding perspectives that challenge us. David’s motivation was described as not having a selfish desire. He was driven since Goliath defied God. David's act of faith and courage became a symbol of how the underdog, with God's help, can overcome seemingly insurmountable challenges. Reflections from Deborah Kelly.
