Friendship is the core of a relationship with God. Paul says we can rebuild any friendships that we may have let go of in the past. It is time to consider reconnecting with others that we let go of. Some people like David fall into a trap (stuck or unable to escape a sin) with others, but we can communicate, keep promises, and stay in contact with each other. We can stay in contact with God.
David continued his heartfelt plea for God’s forgiveness and spiritual renewal after he sinned. He asked God to create in him a clean heart and renew a steadfast spirit within him. Just as David sought renewal, we too are reminded of the desire for a fresh start in our faith. The words of a song last week said “I want to walk as a child of the light. I want to follow Jesus.” We do want to have our sins forgiven and renew the promises we made to God.
When I think of friendships, I think of what this church offers in terms of the amazing people who come here and offer their time, talent, and treasure to others. On Sunday, May 18, the Stewardship Committee will be handing out new bookmarks about the Congregational Care Ministry. The vision of this ministry is that “EVERYONE be connected to GIVE and RECEIVE the COMFORT of CHRIST”. I have enjoyed interviewing people in the different ministries to make these bookmarks since they are making a difference for others in this congregation and people in the community. They help us see the power of being in relationship with God and staying in contact to share His forgiveness and love to everyone.
