When you look at the following ways our congregation has helped to provide for those in need within our local communities you should feel very good … not in a boastful way but in knowing that RB Community strives to be the hands and feet of Jesus to those around us. Since July, you, the Deacons, Carpenters, other small groups, and community members have given very generously.
8 SUVs loaded with groceries for local food banks 1200 Sack lunches for clients at Interfaith 188 Backpacks and 8 bags of school supplies 129 Pairs of new shoes for school age children 149 Pajamas for foster & homeless children 255 Shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child 321 Knit scarves, hats, baby blankets from Heart Strings 203 Thanksgiving Dinner Bags for families dealing with food insecurity 150 Santa Sacks sewn by our sewing circle for PUSD Youth in Transition
If we maintain this pace throughout the church fiscal year (July-June) we will easily have donated $80,000-100,000 worth of goods as in-kind donations to non-profits within San Diego County. “Thank you for your very generous donation of 30 Thanksgiving Dinner bags, pajamas, scarves, and new school shoes for our families at Solutions for Change.” “Thank you so much for the very generous donation of Thanksgiving Dinner bags and school supplies earlier in the year. Our families at Pomerado Elementary feel very blessed to have a partner like RB Community Church.” This was the second year that RB Community has been a local collection site for Samaritan’s Purse National Collection Week receiving shoeboxes from other churches, scout troops, and families in our community. We collected 1,942 shoeboxes (255 from our church), put them in cartons, and hauled them to San Marcos. Thank you to our drivers: Rich Brubaker, Brad Elrod, Corey Buckner, Tom Haley, Bob Christiansen, Warren Johnson, and Fran Spear’s brother Bill. Twelve of us had a great time helping serve Thanksgiving dinner at the San Diego Rescue Mission to 1000 unhoused individuals. On November 23, SDRM provided a warm meal, showers, haircuts, medical assistance, and pet care for those living on the streets downtown. It felt good to be involved.
