Session Update

The life of our church has always been incredibly busy, and yet many people in our congregation are not aware of the different ministries that are part of our church community. As we move forward through this transition time, we want to ensure you know more about RB Community.

Included as part of the communication that will originate from the Session, but could involve other members of the congregation, will be our next Annual Report. Operating on a fiscal year that runs July 1 through June 30, our Annual Report will be compiled after the close of the fiscal year. This allows us to have a complete financial picture of where the church stands, but it will also offer an opportunity to document much of the good work that is being done within our church family.

If you think in terms of a corporate Annual Report, you can expect to see all the important data that should be available to everyone, i.e., the church’s finances and attendance figures. But money and numbers are only a part of who we are. We have many areas of ministry and committees that are integral to making us RB Community. You can expect to see a report on each of these, so that you can feel more familiar with your church

All congregation members will receive an Annual Report this year, and we will plan to have it available in a prominent place on our website. While the Session will lead this process, volunteers in developing the report are always encouraged. Think about how you would like to be involved in the life of our church this year. The possibilities are endless.

Some things change – but some stay the same!

With the search for an interim pastor underway, the Session is busy with the leadership of the church. This past week, part of the discussion was the schedule for preaching, which is probably a question everyone has. “Who will I hear this Sunday, and the next, and the next?”

For the past few years, Pastor Mofid and Pastor John assist with every worship service. Liz Virkler as Director of Worship provides not only outstanding musical direction, but also creates a flow for each service. This helps us as a congregation to engage in well orchestrated services whether participating in-person or online. This is one of the things that will stay the same. Mofid, John and Liz will continue as they have been.

With very full schedules, Pastor Mofid and Pastor John have agreed to add to their responsibilities by preaching occasional sermons, and we are grateful for that. This also gives us an opportunity to discover some new and additional wisdom from our community. With the help of the Presbytery, we will have experienced local preachers providing interesting and insightful sermons between now and the arrival of our Interim Pastor, hopefully by Easter.

We will continue to have sermon series that explore topics important for our spiritual growth. God provides us with not only great preachers, but also great topics throughout Lent. Please pray for the work of our church as we move toward our future.
