Thanksgiving = Giving Thanks

When I listen to the news or read news postings, I am disheartened by all the pain, suffering, poverty, and homelessness here in San Diego, throughout America, and around the world. It makes me think about the old (1983) Anne Murray song “A Little Good News”. If you take time to listen to the song not much has changed. Allow me to brighten your day and share a little good news of how you as part of the RB Community family are making a difference here at home and abroad. During October two carloads of groceries were delivered to Salvation Army in Escondido to help keep their pantry stocked as they provide groceries for those dealing with food insecurity every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Three hundred sack lunches were prepared and delivered to Interfaith Community Services. Thanks to our knitting group, Heartstrings 321 knit scarves, baby blankets, hats, and washcloths will be shared with several of our non-profit partners during the next couple of months. An additional THANK YOU to all the cookie bakers for the dozens upon dozens of cookies baked for Kairos Prison Ministry’s four-day program at the Donovan Correctional Facility. Representatives from PUSD Youth in Transition greatly appreciated those of you who stopped to chat and learn more about how they support homeless and foster children attending our local schools. On a larger scale, each October, RB Community participates in the Shoebox Ministry sponsored by Samaritan’s Purse. As of this writing, we have collected 217 shoeboxes just from our congregation. Very Nicely Done! In November, we will be one of the local collection sites during their National Collection Week, November18-25. I hope you took advantage of the opportunity to meet with Dr. Chappy and Sandee Walden from Missions on the Edge (MOTE) to learn about their life changing prison ministry. Also, Walindwa Board members were available in the courtyard sharing about the children they serve in Kenya through housing and education.

THANKSGIVING DINNER BAGS are being distributed and collected November 3 – November 17 Sundays in the Courtyard or leave in the white box Mon-Fri.

Thank you for helping RB Community be the hands and feet of Jesus in a hurting world. Blessings to you all! Elaine Johnson Outreach Ministry Coordinator
