On Sunday, July 14th, there is a very special recognition happening at RB Community Church. It is not a surprise. It is not a secret. In fact, the more people in our church family that know about it and anticipate it the better. We want the day to be a BIG CELEBRATION DAY, and we want it to be just that so our beloved volunteers know how important they are in the life of the congregation. They are the key to our building God’s kingdom here and now. Recent articles have highlighted a few of these special people, but there are many more who deserve recognition. They would probably disagree with that statement because the volunteers at RB Community do not serve with the idea of becoming famous. They volunteer because they want to follow one of Jesus’s most important teachings. He demonstrated what he meant by washing the feet of the disciples. Now, we haven’t asked anyone to wash our feet, although some churches find it very spiritual. We do ask volunteers to carry out programs and activities, and sometime members themselves come up with new and creative ways to serve. Some volunteer activities are more visible than others. The Elders and Deacons are chosen by you, and volunteer their time to carry out the responsibilities of their various committees as well as attend monthly meetings. Every Sunday our dedicated greeters and ushers welcome you with smiles, help you find your seats and collect the offering, and sometimes just answer lots of questions. We see the Hospitality Team, made up of many, and under the guidance of Joyce Schroeder and Kathy Wesley, busy making a success of all our fun events and Wednesday night programs and dinners. A very dedicated person on that team (and a behind the scenes staff members) is Jenny Graff who has given us over 20+ years working quietly in the kitchen preparing coffee, serving meals, washing dishes, cleaning and organizing…could not do without her. The Pew Angels led by Donna Prather with a team of helpers, prepare the sanctuary each week for worship, dusting, cleaning and restocking the pews with connection and prayer cards, pens and hymn books. On our VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION DAY we want to recognize all the activities that our volunteers carry out with pictures and descriptions of what they do, although we cannot name all, since so much is done behind the scenes and without fanfare. Celebrate with us on the patio, write a thank you note to tell them how important they are and how much they are appreciated..there will be a basket at the Information Booth to drop off a note that Sunday. See you at church on Sunday, July 14th to say a BIG THANK YOU. And, if interested in joining the Hospitality Team, put that on your connection card or email joyce@rbcpc.org
