Assistant Preschool Teacher
Part-time

We are looking for a loving, kind, assistant teacher who believes children learn best through play. This is a part time position, during a traditional school year, working with 2 and 3 year olds. A minimum of 9-12 Early Childhood Education units is necessary. If you’re interested, please contact Kim Vandergrift at preschooldirector@rbcpc.org.


I. MAJOR PURPOSE

Assist the Preschool Director and Preschool Teachers in providing Early Education to preschool children in a loving, Christian, safe environment to the families of RBCPC and the surrounding community.


II. SCOPE

The Assisting Teacher is responsible to the Preschool Teachers with whom they are assigned.  The Assisting Teacher participates in the planning and implementation of a quality, developmentally appropriate, Christian oriented program for the children to whom they are assigned in accordance with the overall preschool foundational values and the values of RBCPC. 


III. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

A.             Support classroom teacher in the set up and clean-up of the educational environment.

B.             Build individual relationships with the children served.

C.            Work directly with individual and small groups of children.

D.            Support classroom teacher with classroom management, classroom and playground activities.

E.             Contribute to providing a safe, healthy environment.

F.             Continue professional development.


IV. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

A.             Assist in classroom set-up and clean up.

B.             Work individually and with small groups of children supporting the daily activities.  Greet the children as they arrive, assist in classroom management, assist children with self-help skills and needs, insure an approved adult picks up children.

C.            Assist teacher in maintaining a stimulating, appropriate and safe learning environment.

D.            Assist teachers in caring for any injuries to children and record injuries as required.

E.             Support special preschool activities; attend Parent Orientation and other preschool events as requested by Director.

F.             Establish an individual relationship with each child, and each family served.  Treat each child with dignity and respect, observe confidentiality.

G.            Have knowledge of each child’s health history, allergies and limitations in the classes assigned.

H.            Participate in the storage and maintenance of materials and equipment.

I.               Assist in setting up the playground environment and participate in daily playground safety inspections.

J.              Participate in all types of emergency drills and be knowledgeable of all emergency procedures.

K.             Confidentially communicate all concerns regarding children and families to the Director and teacher.

L.             Participate in staff meetings, in-service days, and professional growth opportunities.

M.            Provide other assistance to teacher and/or Director if requested.

N.            Be professional in work habits; notify Director of illness or other reason for absence.

O.            Maintain knowledge of RBCPC ministries.

P.             Share God’s love with each child, family and staff member served.


V. WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

A.             Work under the supervision of and is responsible to the Preschool Director.

B.             Works in support of the assigned classroom teacher.

C.            Participates in performance appraisal once a year.

D.            Cooperates with other staff members in a “team based” manner

E.             Maintains a positive, collaborative, working relationship with RBCPC staff, volunteers and ministries of the church

F.             Works within and affirms the values of RBCPC and specifically the mission of the RBCPC Preschool Ministry

G.            Cooperates with the preschool staff to provide a safe, stimulating, challenging, Christian environment for the children served.


VI. QUALIFICATIONS

A.             Knowledge and experience in the field of early childhood education.

B.             Passion for young children and their families.

C.            Meet all requirements of California Community Care Licensing including training, health and fingerprinting.

D.            Excellent writing and oral communication skills.

E.             Professional, friendly, flexible, patient, resourceful, helpful, reliable, good listener.


VII. REQUIREMENTS

A.             US Citizen or authorized to work in the US

B.             Good physical health

C.            Ability to lift and carry 25 pounds

D.            Ability to lift up to 75 pounds with assistance

E.             Ability to stand or walk up to 7 hours a day

F.             Ability to push or pull equipment, such as carts

G.            Ability to get on and off the floor to interact with the children.

H.            Requires flexibility of time and days of week
