POSITION DESCRIPTION - CHILDCARE WORKER

HOURS/WEEK – AS REQUESTED

LEVEL 1:  NON-EXEMPT


I.               MAJOR PURPOSE

Provide safe and developmentally appropriate program support for the Children’s Ministry, performing childcare support duties. 


II.             MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

A.    Observe and monitor children's play activities.

B.             Interact with children in a way which conveys respect and nurturing 

C.            Provide activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving appropriate to the development levels of the children 

D.            Check in and out children participating in the program

E.             Attend to the personal hygiene of each child in your care, including changing diapers or soiled clothing and washing hands 

F.             Maintain a safe environment based on safety standards set by the program and the RBCPC Protection Policy

G.            Assist in the cleaning and straightening of the childcare rooms at the end of the day, as well as putting away any equipment 

H.            Maintain open, friendly, and cooperative relationship with families

I.               Read to children, and teach them simple painting, drawing, handicrafts, and songs.

J.              Assist in preparing food for children and serve snacks to children.

K.             Sanitize toys and play equipment.


III.            WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

A.             Reports directly to the Children’s Ministry Coordinator.

B.             Relates as a colleague to church staff to ensure that staff relations are team oriented.


IV.           QUALIFICATIONS 

A.             Knowledge and experience in the field of early childhood education.

B.             Ability to communicate effectively and maintain emotional control under stress 

C.            Ability to routinely lift children, move furniture in an early childhood classroom and sustain long hours of active work

D.            Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible 


V.             REQUIREMENTS

A.             US Citizen or authorized to work in the US.

B.             Good physical health

C.            Requires flexibility of time and days of week.

D.            Requires work on Sundays and some holidays
