These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Deuteronomy 6:6-7 (NIV) Have you ever heard the saying, “Be careful little ears what you hear”? It is no secret that a child typically repeats every little thing they hear, especially if they listen to it over and over again—good or bad! For example, are you still able to recall a song or poem you memorized as a child? No matter how much time has passed, it is likely you can still recite any number of nursery rhymes, childhood songs, poems, or silly sayings that have stuck with you over the years. I was blessed to grow up in a home where my parents set faith-based music and God-centered conversation on repeat. As an adult, I treasure the valuable lessons regularly played for my little ears to hear, now engraved upon my heart and mind. Does your home currently have God’s commandments on repeat? Do the halls of your house echo the truth of His everlasting love day in and day out? Does your dinner conversation reflect the teachings of God’s Word, and how you should work that out in your daily living? God’s power is on display as we proclaim His commands out loud for all to hear, young and old. You must repeat them over and over and imprint them on your heart because everything you do flows out of it (Proverbs 4:23). Pause to Ponder: What is playing on repeat in your home today? What are some practical ways you can audibly set the Word of the Lord on repeat in your home, in your car, at work, and as you go about your day?
